The mighty Mississippi provides some of the best walleye fishing in the Midwest, with fish in the 10-14 pound range being caught every year. The potential for both high catch numbers and the chance to land a true giant exists year-round on this river system. With certain areas of the river staying open nearly throughout the year, anglers have a long window for fishing. However, the river’s ever-changing conditions mean that some times of the year may yield better results than others.

Spring Trophy Fishing: January-April

Spring fishing is one of the prime times to target giant prespawn walleye. The Mississippi River walleyes grow particularly large, feeding on abundant shad throughout the year. Each spring, it's common to encounter walleyes in the 8-12 pound range, with the chance to land even larger fish. Spring also provides numerous opportunities to catch a high volume of fish.

Fall Trophy Fishing: September-December

Fall fishing on the Mississippi River provides some of the best action of the year. This is my favorite time to fish, as the fish are feeding aggressively in preparation for winter. With abundant fish, you can expect high catches of walleyes and the possibility of landing multiple trophy fish in a single outing. We offer both day and night fishing trips to suit your preference. Night fishing during this period provides some of the best fishing of the year.
